Oh Beloved, what a moment. How is your heart? How’s your body doing metabolizing the anxiousness of the unknown? How is your soul fairing?
The election here in the US has rocked so many of us. Events of late left me without words for awhile. Called me into deep listening. Demanded humility. As wave after wave of fear, anger, sadness and denial moved through me, I was asked to practice what I preach when it matters most.
I want you to know in moments like these, that even if a message from me isn’t landing in your inbox, I’m nonetheless activating the thread that connects us. You being part of this Shakti tribe matters a lot to me.
The way I figure it, if this can reach you through the internet then a direct blast from my heart can surely hit the mark even more efficiently.
So know that when things seem to be falling apart, I’m calling on and activating the filaments of this web holding us together. Often in the stillness of my morning meditation, or walking on the soft earth of the forest floor, or wild with joygasmic bliss on the dance floor, or surrendering to pleasure having it’s way with me, I reach out to share the Shakti with you. I literally pray that it be sent, for the highest and best good, through the red thread that connects us and imagine it landing gently on your heart.
Here are some things that I’m doing my best to remember right now and I want to offer them to you as well.
Do Not Lose Heart, We Were Made for These Times: these words from Clarissa Pinkola Estés have been a mantra for me for a long time now. I believe we are souls who enthusiastically came forth to be of service at this moment of transformation. We’ve had lifetimes of training as mothers, lovers and leaders to prepare us to show up in our perfect imperfection right now as divine feminine emissaries of fierce love. Our voice may be trembling, our legs quivering, our minds bewildered at witnessing the tenacity of patriarchy in its death throes but we’ve got this.
Love is Always the Answer: but only always. Sometimes it has the pink fragrance of compassion. Sometimes it’s a blood red Kali roar. It may protest, march and organize but it always stands for peace, for unity. It’s the greatest power on earth and we know it deep in the marrow of our bones. Even when we temporarily forget.
Change is Life: Shakti is ever-changing life force energy; She Who Cannot Be Contained. And She’s got a master plan. When we stop pretending that we have control and just do our piece, we find peace. The contractions that feel like they’re ripping you apart are a necessary part of birthing the baby. When we stop pushing against and breathe into embracing reality, we can taste the exhilaration of the moment. Presence. As Carolyn Myss might say in a time like this: “I smell God.” Me too. I smell Goddess in our midst.
“Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test, or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” Pema Chodron
Know your task. We don’t need to completely understand what’s happening right now, nor do we need to be able to predict the future. Not our job, thank heavens. Yes, clearly there’s work to be done. “Let us undertake to do it joyfully,” as the Runes council. One step at a time.
“Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.” Clarissa Pinkola Estés
Re-source with Your Shakti Practices: tap into your authentic feminine power by returning again and again to your body, heart and soul.
What does your body need?
Extreme self-care fills up the well so you have overflow to give to others. What are the daily habits that best support you? Move, dance, get thee to the yoga mat. It’s not about “being in the mood.” Remember that your sexuality, sensuality and pleasure bring light into your body, allowing you to more effortlessly resonate with a frequency of love, metabolize stress.
Connecting with your orgasmic energy gives you a glimpse of heaven, reminds you that you’re made of sacred stardust. Nourishing your erotic wellbeing taps you back into your sustainable fuel, increases your capacity to hold others, shine light into confusion, be of service, and attune to the higher intelligence of your instinctual wisdom.
What does your heart need?
Big emotions mean big access to healing and the power of your Shakti. Remember our practices around fully feeling your feelings in the body, rather than analyzing, collapsing into them or repressing them. Welcome the flow of your e-motions, the water element as messenger, guiding you to right action, letting go, or setting boundaries. Keep returning to your heart. Envelope the whole crazy world in your supernova of love.
What does your soul need?
Remember the root meaning of surrender: melting into something higher. Not endless “what if” scenarios that scare the crap out of you but accessing the eternal part of you, visionary, keeper of truth. Tap into the Shakti in your longing. Sing the holy mantras. Meditate so you can distinguish your beautiful feminine essence apart from the thoughts hijacking your peace.
I’m heading to the coast after Thanksgiving once again for six days of silent retreat with Adyashanti as one way I’m committing to soul time. Listen for what is calling you.
Although I have grave concern and sadness witnessing the division, meanness, fundamentalism, misogyny, destruction of the environment and suffering I see in my fellow human beings, it has also become ever more abundantly clear how critical this work of awakening Shakti is on our ailing planet. I believe awakening our sacred feminine body of love as women united for peace, is the great hope not just for this nation but for our world.
Thank you for being such a woman. It is my joy to stand with you.
With so much love,
