Years ago I heard Abraham-Hicks share something that’s been coming back to me a lot lately. Here’s my version.
Two people walk down the same street. The first one passes by the alley and catches a whiff of rotting garbage. The second one turns her head toward the bakery just as the scent of fresh bread wafts out the door.
The first one notices the dog poop on the sidewalk. The vibrant red geraniums in the flower box capture the attention of the other. The first one encounters a scowl from a grumpy old man and the other, a cheerful wave from a little girl skipping down the sidewalk.
They’re both on the same street, experiencing real and true things, differently.
This is not about minimizing the realness of the sh*t, rotting garbage, and dangerous old men in our midst. We can consume news confirming the reality of that all day long.
But what I’m noticing, given the intensity of the times, is that a lot of us are working hard to define and maintain our equanimity. On the daily.
We want to stay informed and engaged without spiraling into distraction and despair (anger or anxiety). We want to feel our feelings while tending to our permeable, empathic natures. We want to take part in forms of activism or speaking out that are aligned with our integrity, vision and capacity.
Destruction, change, birth, revolution, evolution…it’s messy business.
Meanwhile, while the world falls apart, we have work to do … taking care of ourselves, families, clients, businesses, homes, and community.
So we gotta keep remembering a few things. That we were made for these times. Yes, hell is on earth but so is heaven. We gotta remember that the goodness, love, kindness, balance, beauty, creativity, like-mindedness, and commonality we possess vastly outweighs the negatives and almost never makes headlines.
So I offer you this inquiry, dear woman of Shakti, which I find also to be a place of strength and refuge: to know what you stand for. And to keep staying true to that in all the big and little ways you do.
I am a stand for the sacred feminine in all of us to take up her rightful place alongside the masculine so that her qualities of love, union, and reverence for life, for pleasure, bring healing, balance, and awakening to all. I fundamentally believe we were gifted this exquisite life to enjoy it, through these sensual bodies and on this blessed earth of infinite beauty and delight.
So I read the news. I feel my heartbreak. I reach out with what I have: my words and my coaching skills for powerful women like you, like us. Then I step away from the devices and take a walk by the circle of redwood trees next to the chicken coop. I reach for the still-warm brown egg nested in the wood shavings. I scoop out the poop, too. I thank the hens for their gift as I cup the simple miracle of this egg gently in my palm. I stop and pick a few narcissus sparkling with rain drops to perfume the house. In the kitchen, I wrap my arms around my beautiful man and silently melt into his blue-eyed gaze.
Shakti, divine feminine power, moves onto this earth, (wo)manifests, through bodies, hearts, and souls, yours and mine. We participate by dilating or constricting our aperture. Where we focus contributes to either opening or pinching off the flow.
If we’re pinching it off, we know because it feels bad. When we’re disconnected from our body, we might feel unhealthy, stressed out, turned off, unable to feel pleasure. If we’re dominated by negative mental loops, we will miss our intuitive and spiritual guidance. Part of being human is dancing with the shadow but we’re also designed to co-create with the ecstatic.
Whatever Shakti means to you, I’m here to celebrate you having greater access to it. I think our job, as awakening women, is to keep opening, being a channel or vessel if you will, for the greater flow of sacred feminine power onto the planet. That’s the world I see as possible, and the one I want to live in and fight for.
Maybe that looks like more light, love, and gratitude. Maybe that looks like more boundaries, fierceness, and clarity. Maybe that looks like listening, curiosity, or pause.
And maybe it’s all of that … before noon.
Stay the course, Beloved. We’re in this together.
With so much love,
