My 84-year-old mom called me recently and asked me to take her to a protest. She said she wasn’t OK with what was happening to our country and wanted to do something about it.

So, on a sunny spring morning, we joined about 2,000 others—mostly women who looked a lot like us—at one of the busier intersections in our little town. We waved our signs at the passing cars, most of which honked in support.

Mom took it in stride when someone pointed out that she’d misspelled “democracy” on her sign. “Oh well,” she shrugged. “People know what I mean.”

I admire this quality I see in many elders: not sweating the small stuff. Perfectionism seems to lose its grip in the presence of one who is still standing—in the raw bewilderment of simply surviving. Given that none of us is guaranteed another tomorrow, I think that’s something we could all be cultivating.

I’m grateful for the experience of protesting with my mom and will always cherish that memory. I love that she got me out on the street, shoulder to shoulder with so many others in my community. I continue to feel bolstered knowing that I live among like-hearted people. In a world suffering from an epidemic of loneliness, it was good medicine to feel that connection.

I also fundamentally believe there is more power in being for something than against it. For one, it feels better—and things that feel good channel more expansive life-force energy, more Shakti, into the world. I believe that frequency of divine feminine energy pulsing inside us is the antidote to the destructive dominator pattern gripping the planet.

When we awaken, welcome, and partner with the goddess within, we beam the light of love, beauty, and union to help others remember the exquisite pleasure of being alive.

We are the vessel through which that sacred power flows. So you feeling good in times like these is a revolutionary act. That which brings you joy and pleasure deserves your utmost attention and priority (alongside your discernment between authentic and shadow forms of “pleasure”).

You being optimally resourced right now may be your most potent form of protest—your most powerful way to make the difference you’re so deeply committed to making.

Prioritizing what brings you pleasure feeds every system in your body, making you stronger, clearer, and happier. It also makes you irresistibly attractive—so opportunities come to you. With less effort required from you, more of your magic can move into the world. This is prime time for the wisdom and leadership of the feminine. You know this; you can feel it; you’re hearing the call.

Being a resourced woman means coming home to your body, in all the ways it is—and is not. You can tap into the wellspring of your sensuality for the energy you seek, the nourishment you crave, and the restoration your nervous system requires for optimal functioning. You can fuel your channels of vitality, creativity, and womanifestation with a sustainable and preferred energy source: pleasure.

You can unhook from pressure, pushing, performing, proving, and the endless improving demanded by the patriarchal imprint.

As your Wise Woman Shakti Coach and Mentor, I encourage you to do whatever it takes to feel good—because that will fuel and fire your activism. Whether taking to the street, leading your business, tending relationships, growing your garden, or making your self-care a priority, your power is in your joy.
